This substack has quickly become my favorite place to create and share content.
I have nothing against the blog (The Family Alpha), and I will continue to post new articles there, but starting this substack was like starting a new job. I get to write more personal and less constricted content; I get to write about what’s on my mind vs. just the Marriage and Family elements I’ve been speaking to for the past 7 years on TFA.
A part of this journey on ‘The Daily Draft with Zac Small’ is sharing with you where I am at with this brand and what I’m doing to get to where I want to go. This is the first month of paid operation, and I’m going to share with you all of the analytics showing my subscribers, money made, views, etc., below.
The aim here is to let you see the journey and show what is and is not working.
I’ll answer any/all questions regarding my process on these posts, as this is a transparent operation I’m running here. I didn’t do this on my own, this is a subscriber-supported operation here, and without you, this would be a bunch of words thrown into an empty electronic void; I hope each of you reading knows how much I appreciate that.
This is a paid post; this was not planned as I will be releasing these on the 29th of every month, so unless the 29th lands on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, only paying subscribers will get the full picture, but if it lands on one of those three days, then everyone will have total access. Again, the FREE/PAID element has nothing to do with the content shared, and it’s simply a matter of when the 29th is.
Now, to the break down of how things are going. I started the substack on 18 August, 2022 and went paid 29 August 2022; here are the results from then to now…
VIEWS
As you can see, in the first month, I’m working to build momentum, and I am getting a feel for how things work.
I’ve learned a few things, the main one being the need to get these posts in front of followers' eyes, as the Substack platform alone does not (yet) draw enough of a crowd for any serious traction to be had.
SUBSCRIBERS
In the first 3 weeks, I gained 100 subscribers with 10 of them being paid. Then last week I exported the email list connected to The Family Alpha as I’ve not been writing there and wanted to provide those who’d signed up with the new content being generated so I important the 3,300 with several (50+) unsubscribing immediately and 4 becoming paid members.
I’ve had the best success with putting daily blasts on Twitter, this is easy for me as I am writing a new piece every day so there is always new content for people to consume and it also gives those already subscribed something to share.
