Are we witnessing the destruction of America?

I served on Active Duty in the United States Navy for eight years, deploying twice to the Middle East and spending over 650 days out to sea. I missed my son’s first birthday, his first steps, and many moments with friends and family. Still, throughout it all, I knew I was participating in defense of my fellow countrymen and the freedoms and liberties guaranteed by America.

Today I sit here, eight years removed from military service, and I’m looking at the state of my country, wondering, “Was it always like this..?”.

As the days continue to get more and more strange, I'm asking myself, “Am I maturing? Am I becoming cynical? Did youthful bravado and nationalism blind me?”

How did I go from “America, fuck yeah!” to “America, what the fuck?”.
