People out there have 100,000+ followers online, yet they feel alone and isolated in the “real world“.
The issue we’re seeing in this new age of 24/7 hyper-connectivity is that it has created faux-connection, a disconnect from consequences, and it’s instilled an illusion of power in people.
The term I’ve coined for those operating in a mind state where they can no longer distinguish between the internet and the real world is binary living.
This has nothing to do with being “Non-Binary”; if anything, it’s a term for those who’ve gone “Full Binary” as their entire life is now a giant 1 or 0.
Example: If you’re a Trump supporter, it means you’re a literal Nazi and if you’re a Democrat, then you want babies to be killed. People are leaving zero gray areas anymore; it’s all black or all white.
This sounds crazy (it is), but that’s what is going on in our society and how people are treating one another. Just look around you; how often do you see civil discourse online where ideas are judged, not those speaking them?
People think what they say and do online will not come back to haunt them in the “real world” because they’re ANON or they believe they are protected by free speech.
You may be free to speak your opinion, but that does not protect you from the consequences dealt by the man or woman you’ve insulted.
You never know who is on the other side of the screen, and you sure as hell can’t troll in real life the way you do online without physical consequences, so it’s best you treat people with respect both on and off the electronic systems.
People blending screen time with face time are losing sight of the boundaries that were once naturally respected; you knew how to speak, where to stand, and what verbiage and volume were appropriate to use, which is being lost. In fact, I believe we will see a lot more of this in the future; people blatantly disregard social respect and instead are choosing to be “Live Action Trolls” aka douche-bags.
I don’t want this to happen, but the writing is on the wall.
We live in a world where people can troll online for hours and hours, which will warp their perception of reality. These folks are untouchable behind their screen for 8+ hours a day every day, and then when they have to enter the “real world” for work, to eat, etc., their mind still views them as untouchable.
This cycle has and is going to continue getting people hurt and killed…
Authenticity Is King
The solution to this ridiculous epidemic is to live your life, with your truth, in every scenario.
You do you, and you be you everywhere.
Binary Bros will say and do things online they’d not otherwise have said or done because, in their head, they’re still online. Don’t let yourself become that guy, no matter how hard you wish you were someone else or how much you want to be living a better life; you need to own where you are and work to get to where you want to be; taking the shortcut of “jumping the line” online this not real growth and you know that.
The line between electrons and atoms is more blurred with each advancement of technology.
Take This Example: If a man swears and flexes at my family, then I punch him in the mouth, he will genuinely be surprised and play the role of “victim” because he did nothing wrong; he’ll believe that because in his mind he was an NPC - how dare someone to engage with him?
You can run your mouth online, but in the real world, there are people who don’t just “sign out“ and take it as a part of “playing the game”. In the game of life, the consequences are more severe, and there is no respawn.
Protect yourself from these individuals and understand this is a problem that won’t be going away anytime soon.
