Surprised you don't use a burn barrel (old 50 gallon steel drum with holes drilled in the bottom of it so rain doesn't collect). That is what we used when I was a kid to burn our "garbage" keeps things contained, and once full we would transfer the ash to the garden to add nutrients to it.

That's a good idea and one we may have used had I thought it'd have been an issue. We'd had many fires over the past 1.5 years here, all issue free. Yesterday, lesson learned.

Thank you Mark and while I'd certainly prefer to NOT have had the fire, it did offer that rare glimpse into, "Are we prepared?". The answer is now a KNOWN, "Yes".

Glad your house didn’t burn down! Excellent post. Not focusing on the mistakes made, and instead the reaction and how preparation mitigated a negative is gold.
